We ended up placing 139th out of the 350 teams and came in 42 out of 154 teams in our category. This is about 100 places higher than the last 2 years. What a great race we had!

Thanks again to all our loyal fans who stayed up all hours of the night tracking our progress and to those who braved the elements to see us at the finish line. The support from home really does help push the 12 of us along the 200+ miles we have to go.

This truly was a special year. Running for someone we were all truly blessed to know and love was real motivation. Eric was right. God has blessed us all with something special. Not only our friendships and the long lasting connection we all have, but also our physical ability to complete a race like this. You won’t see a Hornet complaining about how they feel when they are running at 3 am or in the middle of a rain storm or with only one hour of sleep. Every ache and pain we endure reminds us of what God has given us and just how blessed we are to take every single step we do.

Thank you again to everyone.

Eric's comment to the Team

Dear Hornets…At 5:30am Sat. Morning I would have been happier looking for a paper clip in a TA 30 portapotty at 4:00pm on Saturday. About 1 mile into my final 8 it was foggy and I could see my breath, at 4 miles in i passed a “tractor pull stadium” and a store called McKenna Flutes! Shortly after 4.5miles (Where I should have been done.) I had 3.5 in front of me and
22.4 miles behind me. Everything hurt…yet I was smiling and laughing (and singing Livin on a Prayer in my head) because this was one awesome experience. To think that there were teams of 12 who “didn’t really know” each other and the hornets were all marryin each other at the finish! We are all truly blessed by this bond of friendship. So many people go through life and look around and realize that they’ve lost touch with their close friends. Reach The Beach is more than a running race…its a showcase of our friendship and a symbol of how God has blessed us all with such a special gift. Love you guys and girls.

Great work. 2008 will be a medal finish.

Van 2 brings it home

Van 2 pushed on with all they had to bring the Hornets to the beach.

My mom just showed me your picture on the computer. I was trying to push all of the buttons. Looks like you found a buddy to do poopies in the woods with . My mommy said if that were her she would try to hold it. But then you would probably get a tummy ache. I don't quite understand. I can't wait for next week.
I can’t sleep. Bobby is grabbing some Z’s in the hallway at the College. This is an interesting spot. The hallways are full of people trying to grab an hour or two of rest before starting up the next round of legs. The bathrooms are locked and labeled “out of order.” The internet is fast and the electricity is free.

It’s only just beginning to fill up. New runners walk in every few minutes, walk up to the bathroom door, see it’s not available, and turn their attention to quietly finding a spot to relax. Cell phones beep occasionally with text message-updates from teammates on the road. I can’t sleep. Partially because I’m sitting under a bright light, partially because I just crushed an iced coffee, and partially because I want to see how tired I can look tomorrow.

I’m dreading the rain and the misery that comes with running in the pitch black in the middle of the night whilst soaking wet. I know it’s coming, and the discomfort is inevitable. Yet somehow, I’m holding on to hope that I can squeeze my run in before it starts. I have 7.1 miles ahead of me, which is a lot for a guy who hasn’t trained enough. I have a feeling that it will take a miracle for me to pull of any kind of respectable time, but I guess you never know.
